Why do you love travel?

To be honest, I’m not sure how to answer this question. To me it’s unthinkable that someone wouldn’t want to see different places, meet different people, and experience different cultures. Why wouldn’t anyone want to travel?!

Your favourite travel destination and why?

A tie between Vietnam (amazing country and people) and Barcelona (crazy architecture by Gaudi, the best tapas, and generous pours of drinks at bars!).

What do you need for a perfect holiday?

A good book! And okay, wifi as well… can’t not have wifi!

In which country have you felt most at home?

I’ve never felt at home in any other country and that’s the point of travelling I guess. You travel to explore the unknown and avoid the sameness.

Most unusual souvenir you have brought home?

A big wooden carving of the Hindu god Ganesh, from Nepal. I had to buy a new bag to bring that back!

Favourite holiday discovery?

Everytime I, or one of my travel companions, discover an off-beat restaurant with great food. One that sticks in my mind is this great tapas bar called Cerveceria Catalana in Barcelona. We randomly discovered it and later found out that it has a cult following of sorts.

Worst holiday or travel experience?

Navigating US Immigration at Toronto’s airport and missing two flights because it took so long!

Best piece of travel advice?

Use Skyscanner to get the best airfares, use SeatGuru to choose the best seat (especially for long flights!), and, when you get to your destination, read the local English dailies to connect with the place.

Your top five travel destinations?

In no particular order:

1. Greece
2. Cambodia
3. Vietnam
4. New York City
5. Barcelona

What has travel taught you?

That tribalism and nationalism is silly and that we should just embrace the diversity around us.

What is the country you will never go back to and why?

I really haven’t had such a bad experience that I’d never return to a country, to be honest.

Which country did you taste the best ever cuisine?

Greece! The names are hard to remember but I had great food there.

Next travel destination?

London.
