Sommelier turned actor Sahan Hewadewa is taking great strides in the local cinema industry. He lists wine, travel, cooking as his likes and indulges in tennis swimming and paintballing for relaxation. Bad fashion and bad menu ordering are his pet peeves.

Why do you love travel?

To challenge myself and get out of comfort zone and also to learn about another culture and their culinary arts. Apart from that travel helps me to network.

Your favourite travel destination and why?

Hong Kong (Fragrant Harbour) - To start off its a multicultural hub with great respect for each other within the country and for tourists from outside. It's a shopping paradise with street markets to high end couture brands. Colorful nightlife with great night clubs, pubs and rooftop bars to keep you sipping for great cocktails and rare wines.

What do you need for a perfect holiday?

A set budget - even though you would never stick to it and a decent hotel.

In which country have you felt most at home?

Melbourne, Australia (home away from home)

Most unusual souvenir you have brought home?

Taser Gun - with the correct level of electric force you can have a lot of fun with your friends.

Worst holiday or travel experience?

My one and only stay at a hostel in Shenzhen, China - with no English speaking  staff at all, dirty linen to over crowded bunks to shared toilets the location was next to an industrial zone mixed residential old town of the city where it's a red light district on one side and pirate A grade counterfeit market on the other side all run by Chinese Triad gangs.

Best piece of travel advice

Some travel destinations are best not planned like Greek Islands or Philippines and ensure you have a decent DSLR camera and a few backup memory cards and always back up your pictures.

Your top five travel destinations
1.    Bora Bora
2.     Romania (well almost all of east Europe)
3.    Kenya
4.     Egypt
5.     Hong Kong

What has travel taught you?

Life is full of little moments experienced while traveling and a book written to be read to your grandkids later in your life.

Which country did you taste the best ever cuisine?

Malaysia, KL - Jalan Alor - hawker street food, sitting on the road while vehicle drive pass you while you enjoy frog legs, crickets, deep fried soft shell crabs, kun kung and garlic fried rice. YUMMY

Next travel destination

Bolivia - Senagal - Estonia
