Indu Dharmasena is a master at creating content tailored keeping the audience's pulse in mind, a fact that was evident by the enthusiastic audience responses on the closing night of his latest play.

With his reliable tongue-in-cheek genre of comedy, Dharmasena continued his winning streak in the second innings of his largely successful play, Chaos by SMS. The audience - many who were there for the second time - was duly introduced to Ram Sewalagala who's initially dealing with a different sort of problem - that of his housekeeper’s pussy, Arabella. Gladys is throwing up a good old hissy fit - her beloved Arabella has been raped by a street cat, she claims, and now she's about to pop. 

But Ram’s problems are bigger than the insignificant pregnancy worries of Glady's cat - he’s panicked having sent a message meant for his love interest Nelum to a host of other women as well. Nelum, it turns out, won't be the only one attending the “dirty weekend” for some “hot and steamy" fun. “Satisfaction guaranteed”, obviously. Ram manages to send a message informing everyone the weekend is off. Three women fail to get it.

Ram eventually enlists the help of his uncle Edward Pinnawala - who is staying at Ram’s Sewalagala estate to recuperate from his bypass surgery - and the distracted Gladys. Everyone breathes a sigh of relief - it seems like the situation may finally be under control. But life isn't so simple. Plans don't work out. People turn up in the wrong order. Even more puzzlingly, a “man" turns up for the dirty weekend! Problems pile up, characters mix up and chaos ensues.

Indu Dharmasena shines in his role as Ram, his performance top notch. Supported by an equally talented cast, the bilingual play was well paced and left the audience in stitches; a testament to Dharmasena prowess.

Amaya - I thought it was a really funny start off. They had a lot of relatable humor. That's the best thing about Indu’s plays. He takes things we are familiar with and includes them in his comedies.

 

Lehan - It's a very funny play. We really enjoyed it. The pace was also good. Didn't feel the time going.

 

 

Mihiri - I thought it was excellent.
