“Sri Lankans like theatre in their politics and politics in their theatre!”

The cast of Jith Pieris’ ‘Affair at Ward Place Hotel’ took to the stage on the 28th and 29th of October at the Lionel Wendt to deliver yet another farcical production well-suited for Jith’s enthusiastic audience.

Spectators were left in an uproar of laughter as they eagerly followed scandal after scandal emerge from the many doors at Ranjith Wijensundara’s luxurious suite. It was as Jith promised, “a much needed laugh for those weighed down by the present political state of the country”.

Here’s what viewers thought of the good old political antics enacted:

“It was very good. I enjoyed it!” - Avadi

“It was a really amazing performance” - Rashni

“The play was an original piece and we liked the humour” - Sharm

“It was very funny and the characters were realistically portrayed” - Dilmini

“It was really hilarious and I liked the subtle sense of humour” - Harshini

“Although this type of play is funny, it can be problematic because it trivialises and humanises disgusting political issues which should be addressed” - Praveen

“It was funny but I think you need to understand Sri Lankan politics to really get the jokes. I only wish it wasn’t so short, I would’ve liked to see more!” - Wright

“Pretty good political satire. Awesome stuff from the cast” - Shawn

“We enjoyed it! It certainly depicts what’s going on” - Nipuni

“I thought the play was funny and I liked that it was short because sometimes plays can drag on for too long. The script was original and they managed to comment on all the political situations” - Duvindi

“The thing with political plays is, it can get corny where you expect the joke that’s coming up but that wasn’t the case with this one. They managed to pull out quite a scandal without making it too risqué which was unexpectedly good” - Sheshadri
